A Traveller's Tale: A Night Out in Town

If you are not at the A Famosa Resort in Malacca, enjoying the night programmes there, then maybe, you should take a walk in the old historic city of Melaka. The city center which reeks of a Dutch town and Chinatown, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. In 1641, the Dutch had with the help of the Sultan of Johore,  captured Malacca from the Portuguese. Historically, the city had also been a stopping point for Zheng He's fleet. Zheng He or Cheng Ho was a Hui court eunuch and a fleet admiral  of China's Ming dynasty. Local folklore also had it that a daughter of the Ming Emperor, Hang Li Po, arrived in Malacca, accompanied by 500 attendants, to marry Sultan Manshur Shah. Her attendants married locals and settled in Bukit Cina. At night, with the man-made lights, you would see Malacca in a different light. Things are always different from what they seem!
