Just the other day, I caught a glimpse of Princess Diana's son, Prince William being married to Kate Middleton in TV. Two billion people reportedly watched the wedding ceremony in TV. In Malaysia, the British High Commission organised the Royal Wedding Celebration in Malaysia where there were around 550 Malaysian and international guests (inset). Amidst all the excitement, there is this interesting piece of news. In Kampung Permatang Pauh, Simpang Empat, Malaysia, an anti-vice squad from the Perlis Islamic Affairs Department booked a couple for committing khalwat (close proximity). The couple, Salleh Nayan and Azizah Saad had initially refused to open the door for the officers. They had been alone in the house until the wee morning and there was suspicions that the situation could lead to zina. Zina in Islam is extramarital or premarital sex and is one of the great sins in Islam. Judge Azeman Omar of the Kangar Syariah High Court had fined Salleh Nayan RM2,200 but the latter had pleaded lower penalty since was not capable of working, suffering from both diabetes and high blood pressure and had also repented. Salleh is 66 while his partner, Azizah is 60. Young and old people need company!
