I remember the 2004 award-winning Thai movie by Singapore-based director Ekachai Uekrongtham, Beautiful Boxer about Nong Thoom (inset) , probably the best-known kathoey or male-to-female transgendered person in Thailand who was a former Muay Thai or Thai boxing champion turned model and actress. It has been reported that there is a local movie about a man who undergoes sex change too, Dalam Botol, featuring a Universiti Sains Malaysia student, Arja Lee aka Azharuddin Ramly, who created controversy when he went nude for a bathing scene. The Information, Communications, and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim had stated that local celebrities cannot bare all on the big screen as this is something that is prohibited in Islam. Beautiful Boxer has a full-frontal male nudity and caused such a stir that it was censored in Thailand.Nudity always causes a stir! Maybe, we should all just stick to some modest Muay Thai...
