No, the Hollywood Golden Girls here do not refer to Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty, the four older women who share a Miami, Florida home in the award winnining American sitcom of the late 80s and early 90s,The Golden Girls. I was thinking more about those pretty American film stars from the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood. The history of Hollywood is said to be separated into four main periods, the silent film era, the classical Hollywood cinema, New Hollywood and the contemporary period. The Golden Age is said to have started when the silent era ended which was from the late 1920s to the late 1950s. The Jazz Singer, released in 1927, ended the silent era and from then on, Hollywood studios churned out thousands of movies featuring dashing male stars and gorgeous female leads. Golden girls are to be found in all eras! Feast your eyes on some from the past, won't you?
