An unidentified creature was allegedly washed ashore dead on a beach near Montauk, a hamlet in New York in July 2008. The creature was said to be big, bloated, beaked, and rather gross-looking and caused quite a stir, with CNN and Fox News covering the story and it became a hot topic for discussion in the Internet. An unidentified woman claimed that the animal was just the size of a cat and there were also speculation that the creature was just a turtle without its shell or some kind of mutant from an experiment. Cryptozoologist, Loren Coleman came up with the name, Montauk Monster for the creature and the name stuck. Presently, another strange creature has been reported to have been washed up on a Long Island beach and there has been talk about the Montauk Monster again.
