Haven't heard of the Von Trapp family? Then, you'd probably not have seen Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music , a 1965 musical film and Best Picture, directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The musical which contains many popular songs including Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Climb Every Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and the Lonely Goatherd was based a true story. Of course, Maria Von Trapp who was an aspiring nun and a governess to Captain Georg Ritter von Trapp's children had written a book about her romance with her employer first in the book, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The family had actually won the first prize in a choral competition during the Salzburg Festival in 1935 and in 1938, they actually left their huge estate ran away from Salzburg, Austria for New York, America when Hittler entered their country. There were nine children with a tenth on the way then although in the hit musical, there were only seven. Forty years after the movie, the actors in The Sound of Music had a reunion and though it's sweet to see them meeting each other again, nothig beats one's own reunion...
