Shutter on the Real

Shutter the Thai horror movie starring Ananda Everingham, Natthaweeranuch Thongmee and Achita Sikamana, was a hit in its home country and when it made its round in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. I was reminded of the flick the other day when I saw a trailer of its American version. Apparently the movie which focuses on mysterious images in developed pictures had not only been remade in America but also in India in 2007 in a Tamil movie called Sivi. Today, I am reminded of the movie again. In the local papers, I read that a 16-year-old girl has been gang raped. Police are looking for eight men including her former boyfriend. The entire incident was said to have been recorded on a hand phone. If a normal camera has been used, it would just be like a scene from the movie. Now, that would be life imitating art but doesn't it makes you wonder why people do not imitate Gandhi or Jesus when the movie Gandhi or Jesus of Nazareth were shown?
