John Berger, an English novelist said that all weddings are similar but every marriage is different. Well, many weddings are not necessarily similar. There may not be a big crowd of guests like always since there are instances when we get to see young people, without the knowledge of their parents or next of kin, running off somewhere to be wed off by someone they barely know. Some weddings appear rather solemn especially when there is a priest in attendance to solemnize it but when you are talking about a Chinese wedding , it could be pretty noisy. Since the arrival of karaoke, Chinese wedding has never been the same. Both talented and untalented people have taken to the stage to show their prowess in singing. It could be a torture sitting through such wedding but then, if it is a wedding of someone you know for years, there is the joy of just being there! It was with the utmost joy then to see Soon Chye and Chin Har, both of whom I know, getting married...
