Heath Ledger, the star of Brokeback Mountain was 28 when he was found naked and dead in his apartment in the Soho area of New York. His death reminded me of many other artistes both from the East and West, who had passed away early and at their prime and here, I track some of them....
- James Dean, the star of Rebel Without A Cause, Eden and Giant met with a deadly road accident at 24.
- Andy Gibb, the youngest brother of the famous Bee Gees brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibbs and singer of the hit song Shadow Dancing had a drinking and drug problem and at 30, passed away because of myocarditis, a sudden inflammation of the heart muscle.
- Bruce Lee's death at 32 had been attributed to misadventure. Complaining of a headache, his colleague, Ting Pei had given the legendary kung fu star of such movies like The Big Boss, Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon, a painkiller which contained both aspirin and a muscle relaxant. The prescription caused his brain to swell.
- Lin Dai, Hong Kong Movie Queen of the sixties who starred in some of Shaw Brothers' classics like The Kingdom and The Beauty, Madam White Snake and Love without End , was five months short of her 30th birthday when she passed away from an overdose of sleeping pills and gas inhalation.
- Buddy Holly, an American singer-songwriter who pioneered Rock and Roll passed away at 23 in a plane crash.
