Star Track

Heath Ledger 1979 -2008
Heath Ledger, the star of Brokeback Mountain was 28 when he was found naked and dead in his apartment in the Soho area of New York. His death reminded me of many other artistes both from the East and West, who had passed away early and at their prime and here, I track some of them....
  • James Dean, the star of Rebel Without A Cause, Eden and Giant met with a deadly road accident at 24.
  • Andy Gibb, the youngest brother of the famous Bee Gees brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibbs and singer of the hit song Shadow Dancing had a drinking and drug problem and at 30, passed away because of myocarditis, a sudden inflammation of the heart muscle.
  • Bruce Lee's death at 32 had been attributed to misadventure. Complaining of a headache, his colleague, Ting Pei had given the legendary kung fu star of such movies like The Big Boss, Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon, a painkiller which contained both aspirin and a muscle relaxant. The prescription caused his brain to swell.
  • Lin Dai, Hong Kong Movie Queen of the sixties who starred in some of Shaw Brothers' classics like The Kingdom and The Beauty, Madam White Snake and Love without End , was five months short of her 30th birthday when she passed away from an overdose of sleeping pills and gas inhalation.
  • Buddy Holly, an American singer-songwriter who pioneered Rock and Roll passed away at 23 in a plane crash.
Artiste leave their names and their work when they passed away; now, what do we leave?

James Dean 1931 -1955

Andy Gibb 1958-1988

Bruce Lee 1940-1973

Lin Dai 1953-1967

Buddy Holly 1936-1959

It's so sad that these stars fall out so sudden!

We will be forgotten after some years, these artists will be forgotten some years later. Michelangelo maybe will live forever. Those who wrote Bible, Koran, Thora were never known... What changes for them if they are known or unknown? They are dead.

We all leave memories for some. Everyone we meet is touched in some way and that is what they will remember of us. Hopefully, the memories will be good ones :)

Yes, I do think it is sad. It makes me wonder why. Who is responsible?

That's why, I do think we have to be kind. So, that we leave behind fond memories.

Life seems meaningless then. We are forgotten even now. So, I guess we have to put meaning into our life. Just live our life, have right thoughts, right speech right action and never expect to be remembered!

I was thinking and worrying because I'm such a music fan that when a few generations have passed will those people still remember. I mean I listen to stuff all the way from the 20's through today, I have taught my son to listen to it too, but I learned from my grandmother and mom about good music, what about those later they won't know who Andy Gibb is. Also what Liudmila said, yes maybe we will all be forgotten, but I still know I'm alive by the feelings these people can still bring me whether it's saddness because they're gone or happiness to see their work. I CARE THAT THEY ARE DEAD.

Don't worry too much. There will always be people who care.We can't get the whole world to care but it is just comforting to know there will be like-minded people who care just as much as us. Even if we were the last caring people, we should take solace from the fact that we are fortunate enough to be able to come alive with the works of the talented people who had come and gone.
