Of Christmas Eve And Christmas Present

Merry Christmas everyone! It was indeed a surprise for me to find out that some Orang Asli in Malaysia celebrate Christmas. Orang Asli is the local word for aborigines and indeed there is a Catholic Orang Asli community in Kg Tekir and Kg Belihoi in Labu, Negri Sembilan who celebrate the yuletide. The majority of Christians in Malaysian are Chinese, Indians or some indigenous tribes in Borneo and their churches normally celebrate the birth of Jesus on this day. Non-Christians especially Chinese do normally take the opportunity to join in the festive season and my niece and her gang from N & G Art Gallery and a Buddhist Group from Kampong Boyan, had taken time off on Christmas Eve to celebrate their successful art exhibition and competition cum concert cum business fair with a barbeque. The barbeque was a fun affair with games and presents thrown in and ended late into the night only to have it continued the next day with an excursion to old folk homes in Sungai Siput and Ipoh. While Christmas Day had always been a day to reminisce a great man long gone, Christmas Present takes time off for the less fortunate. Isn't that high time?

Thanks for sharing. I think it's wonderful when people make Christmas more that just about gifts. When I was a child our elementary class would always go to the nursing home and sing every year at Christmas. I have 3 children of my own now...and I don't think the school has done it once. Guess I should bring it up!

Thanks for the comment, Liudmila. Some old people do need to be educated too!

Patricia, I do think parents nowadays have to mind their children more. I don't know about school in USA but teachers in schools over here are overburden. The worst part would be interfering parents who almost always side with their children unnecessary, making teachers indifferent. With parents who care, it's really not enough. Parents just have to care and do something right.
