A great being,
Under its shadow,
We take refuge.
If we were to look up to someone, that someone ought to be kind, gentle, trustworthy, wise, smart.... great that is; and willing to lift us up from the mud we are stuck in without setting any conditions like demanding obedience or total allegiance.
