Little Talk : Ang Pow in the year of the Rabbit

Imagine having a girlfriend who complains that the angpow which your mother gives her is too small; having too little money, that is. The year of the Rabbit continues the tradition of giving ang pow during Chinese New Year especially for children or unmarried adults by married couples. Some people have a budget for this; which is very wise. While the rising cost of living has rendered some ang pow to be smaller, it has been pointed out the amount of money doesn't matter. Ang pow is a blessing given by the elders, it is said. The red paper symbolises good luck and some would feature symbols and characters to convey good health and fortune. People however would still prefer big ang pow, I suppose; but wouldn't you ditch a girlfriend who seems rather materialistic and perhaps petty too. Imagine getting dissatisfied not just over the amount of money but also about the use of old bank notes in the ang pow!
