A Traveller's Tale: A Cash Cow

While you are out at night in the city of Malacca, you'd have to make it a point to take a walk in Jonker Street. The street which is in Chinatown was once renowned for its antique shops but there are restaurants here too and clothing and crafts outlets. Since 2000, the street is closed to traffic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There is a lively night market here then where tourists flock to. There are street food that you would like to try such as the famed Malaccan Chicken rice balls, durian cendol etc; and crafts like the cute little decorated wooden stools that you would like to take home as souvenirs. The street is considered a cash-cow, bringing in especially the tourist dollars but even then, it was once proposed that the night market be closed down. If you have taken a long walk in Jonker Street and the night is still young and it is December, maybe you'd like to head somewhere else like the Portuguese Settlement where there is more delights a-waiting. Don't worry your poor mind about a cash cow about to be sacrificed or what. The festive season is coming. Festive season is to be rejoiced! Merry Christmas everyone!

Take a walk on Jonker Walk in the heart of Malacca!
