Trashy Delights

The Hong Kong produced Cantonese 3-D movie, Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy (inset) which stars Japanese adult actresses Yukiko Suo and Saori Hara reportedly beat James Cameron's Avatar in the box-office in Hong Kong. The film based on a classical novel The Carnal Prayer Mat depicts the sexual exploits of a young Ming Dynasty scholar. The film grossed HK$2.8 million ($360,000) on its first day compared to the HK$2.6 million earned by Avatar. There has been a report that Caligula, the 1979 Italian/American film about the rise and fall of the Roman Emperor Gaius Caesar Germanicus or Caligula will be remade into a 3-D movie too. The film which was panned by critics and described as sickening, utterly worthless, shameful trash was the first major motion picture to feature eminent film actors such as John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole, Malcolm McDowell and Helen Mirren in a film with explicit sex scenes. Sex like trash, sells!
