A Traveller's Tale: Shell City Island

Excavation work had been carried out here in Kalumpang Island by archeologists from local universities, UKM and USM as far as in the 80s, from 1987 to 1989 when it was disrupted. Then, it resumed in May, 2008. I suppose the beads and ceramics found here were the only valuable relics. Traces of food had been found which included bones of fishes, birds, monkeys and even pigs. Over 50 types of shells were also recovered that it gave the island the name Pulau Kota Kerang which translates into Shell City Island. Name matters!

Excavation site in Kalumpang Island... You wouldn't want to be in one of these pits, would you?
