A Traveller's Tale: Looking Back

I can't remember how many times I have been to Kuala Sepetang but this coastal town formerly known as Port Weld after the former British Governor in Perak, Frederick Weld never fail to amaze. You'd perhaps find the fishing village unattractive if you are travelling from Taiping and if you are a first timer, perhaps the first impression you would have would be that the houses there are dilapidated and haphazardly built. The town itself is small and the shops that line the main road are nothing to shout about. But take a boat out of Kuala Sepetang, to Kuala Sangga for instance - you would only have to glance back and you'd probably change your mind about the fishing village. The houses on stilts of Kuala Sepetang are a delight to watch. One will just have to look back to see the beauty!

Look back and you'd be delighted! Can you see the stilts that support the houses?

With so much earth nearby, why they build their houses over the water? Don't they have high water in that place?

The people living there are fishermen. Most probably, it is more convenient to go out to sea that way!
