The drama involving a slipper and American President George W. Bush should be stale news by now. Television footage of the incident had went round the world and while an acquaintance I met happened to see it in a hotel room in Makasar, Sulawesi, I got to see it in print in The Sun paper in LC CT, Kuala Lumpur a day later.The footwear had belonged to an Iraqi television journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi, who jumped up as Bush was holding a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and he had shouted, It is the farewell kiss, you dog. Soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture and guess there would be no prizes given for guessing that the journalist was merely insulting the American president. George W. Bush however, had been reported to have laughed off the incident which the report described as bizzare. I suppose it would always be a light laughing matter as long as you are living and enjoying in a peaceful country and get to have the limelight in another country which is heavily embroiled in war. But then, I suppose too, George W. Bush has a reading problem... Just watch the enclosed photo carefully...just watch how he reads...
