Welcome! Leftover!

I was caught by the picture in yesterday's paper. According to the accompanying article, a group of friends will be having a memorable Chinese New Year reunion dinner, thanks to a 180kg grouper which was caught off the waters near Pulau Sembilan in the Straits of . The fish known as loong pan in Cantonese or dragon grouper was bought for about RM10,000 after a bid. I don't know what you think about that but about Chinese New Year reunion dinner, traditionally it is held on Chinese New Year's eve, and members of the family, near and far, get together for the celebration. The New Year's Eve dinner is not just large but it is an important affair and everyone has to come home no matter what. Menu for the dinner will include chicken and fish (魚, yú) too besides other things. The fish is not eaten up completely and the remainder will be stored overnight as the Chinese phrase 年年有魚/餘; (nián nián yǒu yú, or every year there is fish/leftover comes to mean be blessed every year or have profit every year. Leftover has never more welcome! For more of things Chinese, visit Dragon Descendants!
