One's Man Meat

My nephew took me to the theater or rather the cineplex the other day. Theaters are a thing of the past now in Malaysia since the advent of videos and now the VCDs and DVDs. Most people opt to watch a movie in the comfort of the home and cheaply too when the whole family could watch a RM 5 pirated copy over and over again anytime they please. Cineplexes, a smaller and more expensive version of the theater had sprouted up especially in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Ipoh and had drawn in the crowds especially the younger set and in smaller towns like my hometown in Taiping or neighbouring Kuala Kangsar, there is now neither a theater or cineplex to be found. By the way, the action-adventure tale we watch,National Treasure: Book of Secrets starring Nicholas Cage and directed by Jon Turteltaub and described to be absurd by China Daily had pulled in $65.4 million over the five-day holiday weekend in America. Throughout the movie, certain scenes which I found rather serious drew in laughter from a small section of the crowd. Some people seem to be able to laugh over anything. That goes to tell too, what is one man's meat is another man's poison.

Going for a movie at the cineplex in Jusco at Makhota Cheras, Kuala Lumpur...
