Man's Program VS God's Program

When a 7-year-old boy hanged himself at his home in southern New Jersey, America, a child psychiatrist said it would make a lot of parents anxious. Suicide by a 7-year old, according to him, had never been heard of. The boy, a second-grade student at the Cunningham Elementary School in Vineland, appeared to be a good student. He was in a program for the gifted and talented and had no discipline problems. Coming home from school one Wednesday afternoon, he was told to go to his room to do his homework. When he failed to come out after some time, family members went in and found him hanging from a bed post with a belt around his neck. When a child is placed in a human program for the gifted, most probably he will be unwittingly removed from God’s very own program. Perhaps, the poor kid, being bright, could not accept that the world had taken his childhood from him.

Hi footiam. There's a whole lot to that story we're most likely not privy to. No self adjusted 7 year old takes his/her own life. We may find a story of abuse, or bullying, or some form of neglect. Whatever the story is, we can all agree this is an enormous tragedy. -Mike

It is a very sad story. I know a little about gifted children as my daughter (now 22) is one and my other daughter, almost 4 has just been diagnosed as one...
My oldest had a lot of problems, incl. depression because of bullys and beeing bored in school.
there is a lot of work for the parents, but if they are too busy for their own family, god only knows what a child like that can do.

When it happend for the first time in my life as a teacher, we were all shocked. A child of about 7 too, I don't remember good, hang himself to punish his mother because she didn't want to take a dog from the street,I think. Many times passed from there.

I want to say, first, the children don't understand what they are doing. In sense, that this punushing is a game for them. The mother said many times "oh this is terrible" and he learned it. Now, he wants to punish his mother and he does what he heared many times is soooo incredibly terrible for his mother.
He don't thinks how will be the consequence for him, he don't understands the death else.

So, it's not obligatory abuse. I would say, if it would to be abuse, the human being has his instinct to do everything possible to survive. In this age it's fast unpossible that he is in the state when the instinct don't works more and the emotion of depression is greatr as instinct of survival. Mr. Grudge tells about his daughter -but with all problems she has, she does everything to survive in this tribe, right? Right.

Mike, you really look at it from a writer's point of view. That's writer's job all right, analyse and I do agree with you. I think the family doesn't really understand the kid. If you don't have discipline problem in school, that doesn't mean you don't have problem. Emotional problem that feeds on the soul is a bigger problem and it is very unlike a flicker of flame in a forest.

John! A gifted child, I believe poses the most problem. One has to be patient and gives a lot of time. If you are busy working especially when you equate time with money, then, there is bond to be problems. It's not an easy life!

Sometimes, a child doesn't know what he is doing, sometimes, the adults doesn't know. It becomes a tragedy when adults know and couldn't care less.

I also agree there would've been more than one issue going on with this child. Whether or not he truly understood the finality of what he did is also questionable considering his age.

Suicide is something very raw to me. You only have to tag it in places like Photobucket to see how readily available images of this are and how it's skewed into being romantised. Kids have access to these images 24/7. Whereas these places deny people the chance to upload pornography - Quite rightly! - kids are subjected to suicidal images as easily as they can tag messenger smilies. It's no wonder suicide is on the increase and no wonder kids, teenagers, and adults can be blinded into seeing it outside of its God awful reality.
