World's Oldest Skyscrapers

New York, USA

Tokyo, Japan

Hong Kong, China

Shibam, Yemen

New York, Tokyo or Hong Kong - When you talk about these cities, gleaming skyscrapers come to mind. Have you ever wonder then where the first skyscrapers came from? Perhaps, you should meet Shibam in Yemen otherwise known as the manhattan of the desert. Shibam is said to be home to the world’s oldest, surviving skyscrapers. Can anyone anywhere shed some light on this?

These are very nice pictures and comparisons. I think the Web Urbanist has some more information on that. I have his link on my blogroll. Check it out when you get a chance. Thanks for visiting my site too. ;)

The Home Insurance Building in Chicago was officially named "The First Skyscraper". Most people does claim Shibam as the oldest skyscraper city...although not officially proclaimed as such.
