Read that the brassier or bra turns 100 today. This piece of undergarment which was originally developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to replace the corset has now become the most popular form of undergarment for the upper body to the extent that in some parts of the world, a braless lady may be frowned on. The name brassiere was derived from braciere, an old French word which means arm protector. Bras in French means arm but brassiere in French really refer to a baby's vest. A bra is called a soutien-gorge in French. It 's a wonder how values differ in different places and how they changes through time!
